The History of Not By Bread Alone
We were founded in the early 1980s in downtown Green Bay, WI with the vision of a scratch bakery specializing in stuffed breads and delicious desserts. In 2001 we moved to our current facility in Ashwaubenon, WI, which allowed us to add a cafe serving unique sandwiches and salads, as well as offering catering services. Today we continue our “from scratch” tradition in everything we do distancing ourselves from our competition. We are thankful and blessed by the loyal customers we serve daily!
The real meaning behind the name of our business:
These words originally came from the Bible.
Deuteronomy 8:3
“man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD”
Moses is reminding the Israelites of how God has sustained them in their 40 years of wanderings in the desert. This sustenance did not come only in the form of physical food (the manna that God provided), but God was also concerned about their following the direction He gave them in His Word for their spiritual well-being.
Jesus Christ then quoted these words when confronted by Satan to stress the importance of following the commands of God. (Matthew 4:4, Luke 4:4)
